Deborah Sewell, Celeste Duckette Area Chair
Sis. Deborah Sewell is a member of Turner Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church in Hyattsville, MD. On September 10, 2023, she was appointed Area Chair of the Celeste W. Duckette Area of the Washington Conference Branch (WCB) Women’s Missionary Society (WMS) of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
She has served as an officer at various levels of the WMS including Historiographer/Statistician of the Washington Conference Branch WMS, Celeste Duckette Area 2nd Vice Chair, 3rd Vice Chair, and PME Director. Locally, she has served in numerous offices. She is a former President, 1st Vice President, Historiographer/Statistician of the Johanna Morris WMS at Turner Memorial AME Church. Sis. Deborah currently serves as the President of the McLeod – Powell Lay Organization.
Sis. Deborah’s work experience includes: PreK- 12 teacher and Resource Teacher in the DC Public School System for 32 years, and Professor of English and Reading at Montgomery College for 15 years. As an educator, Sis. Deborah impacted the lives of children, youth, and young adults. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, Master of Arts degrees in Language Arts and Computer Education, and a doctorate in Curriculum Development with an emphasis on Child and Youth Studies.
Her favorite scriptures are Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
